Pablo Martin Wins Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational
October 26, 2005 | Cowboy Golf
Martin finished the event with a 54-hole total of 212, 4-under-par. The Malaga, Spain, native battled Georgia's Chris Kirk, who tied Martin atop the leaderboard last year, down the stretch. Martin took advantage of an eagle at the par-5 17th hole to pull away from Kirk. He nearly made a double eagle on the hole after his 220-yard approach shot rolled up and hit the pin before stopping inches from the cup.
After entering the final round tied for second place, Martin fired a 73 on Tuesday to finish two shots clear of Kirk and pick up his second victory of the fall and the fourth of his career. He opened the season with a win at the Ping/Golfweek Preview in September.
In the team race, the Bulldogs successfully defended their title, carding a final round 14-over-par total of 302 to finish at 872. The Cowboys matched Georgia for the low round of the day and finished in sole possession of second place with a 15-over-par 879 total, while Georgia Tech rounded out the top three with an 894 tally.
Individually for OSU, freshman Trent Leon carded a final-round 77 to end play tied for 11th place at 221, while his older brother, Tyler, posted a 75 on Tuesday to finish at 224 and tied for 22nd place.
Junior Ryan Posey tied for 35th place at 227 after signing for a 77 and senior Zack Robinson tied for 45th place after a final round of 81 gave him a 230 total.
The Cowboys will close out the fall portion of their schedule on Nov. 11 when they travel to Orlando, Fla. to take part in the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship.
