Cowgirls Fall at Nebraska, 3-2
October 24, 2005 | Cowgirl Soccer
Nebraska improved to 11-5-1 on the season and 5-2-1 in Big 12 games, while OSU fell to 10-5-3 on the year and 3-5-1 in conference action.
“I thought we played much better than we did on Friday night and was happy with that,” head coach Karen Hancock said. “But playing a good Nebraska team close at their field does us no good, we needed to come out of here with a victory. We had opportunities to send the game into overtime and did not get it done.” Â Nebraska jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Jessie Bruch and Selenia Iacchelli. Husker forward Brittany Timko assisted on both goals. Â The Cowgirls cut the lead in half when Niccole Grimaldi netted her fourth goal on the season. Johanna Loistl served the ball into the box and Grimaldi finished it in the 65th minute. Â Sasha Andrews put NU back on top by two in the 73rd minute when Timko passed her the ball Andrews put it in the net. It was the third assist of the game for Timko. Â The Cowgirls cut the deficit to one again when Yolanda Odenyo found the net with less than five minutes remaining. Grimaldi was credited with the assist on the goal. The Cowgirls had an opportunity to send it to overtime, but they could not get one past NU keeper Jamie Klages.
The Huskers had twice as many shots as the Cowgirls, plus had five extra opportunities off of cornerkicks, but the OSU was still within a goal and had a chance to tie the game. Â The Cowgirls close out the regular season when they host Bedlam rival Oklahoma next Friday at 6 p.m. at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex. OSU must defeat OU to qualify for the Big 12 Tournament in San Antonio Nov. 2-6.
