Cowgirls Drop Road Game at Iowa State
October 24, 2005 | Cowgirl Soccer
Iowa State improved to 9-5-3 on the season and 4-3-1 in Big 12 play, while OSU fell to 10-4-3 overall and 3-4-1 in conference action.
“Iowa State outplayed us and deserved to win,” head coach Karen Hancock said. “We made some silly mistakes that cost us and Iowa State took advantage.”
Jesyca Rosholt gave the Pokes the early lead with her 12th goal of the season coming in just the sixth minute of play. Ashlyn Brantley fed Rosholt who beat the Cyclones all-conference goalie Joanna Haig.
“We played well for the first 20 minutes of the game, but we could not sustain that level of play,” Hancock added.
ISU tied the game in the 18th minute on a goal from Stephanie Kaphingst. Beth Passman took the ball into the corner of the field and crossed it into the box and Kaphingst headed it in to tie the game.
The Cyclones took the lead just before halftime on a shot by Renee de St. Aubin, and OSU went into the lockerroom trailing 2-1.
The Cowgirls could not establish much of an offensive attack as they only took six shots for the game, the second lowest total of the season.
ISU took advantage of OSU's lack of offense halfway through the second half and ballooned the lead to 3-1 on a goal by Hannah Swanborn. Meghan Smith added a goal in the final minute of the contest to put the Cowgirls away.
The Cowgirls will seek their first Big 12 road win at Nebraska on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
