OSU-Iowa State: Series History
Oklahoma State and Iowa State will be meeting for the 43rd time since the series began in 1926. Oklahoma State has a 23-16-3 overall advantage, but Iowa State has a 10-9-1 edge in games played in Ames. Oklahoma State won a year ago in Stillwater by a 36-7 margin. The last time the two teams met in Ames was 2001, and the Cyclones claimed a 28-14 win. Oklahoma State's last win in Ames came in 1997 with a 21-14 victory.
OSU-Iowa State Memories
1983 Â Head Coach Jimmy Johnson's final Oklahoma State team scored early and often as the Cowboys defeated Iowa State 49-13 in Stillwater. The 49 points were the most scored against Iowa State to that point, the most for a Johnson-coached OSU team, and the most the Cowboys had scored in a single game since 1977. Tailback Ernest Anderson led the Cowboys with 43 rushes for 160 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Ike Jackson completed six of 12 passes for 66 yards and a pair of scores.
1988 Â In what could have been a game that clinched the Heisman Trophy for tailback Barry Sanders, Oklahoma State hung on for a 49-28 win on a blustery day in Ames. Sanders carried the ball 32 times for 293 yards and scored four touchdowns. The Cowboys would need every one of them as OSU allowed Iowa State 417 total yards. Iowa State led 28-21 with 14:55 to play before Sanders went 80 yards on a third and seven play. The Cowboys took the lead on an 11 yard pass from Mike Gundy to Hart Lee Dykes, and OSU would score the game's final 14 points to ice the win. After the game, the Cowboys accepted an invitation to play Wyoming in the Holiday Bowl in San Diego.
Tickets Remain for Final Two Home Games

OSU Last Week
Oklahoma State fell behind early and staged a second-quarter rally, but it wasn't enough as Texas A&M recorded a 62-23 victory in front of 78,451 partisans at Kyle Field in College Station. The opportunistic Aggies took advantage of seven OSU turnovers, including one that led to their first touchdown. A&M raced to a 20-0 lead before the Cowboys got on the scoreboard on a 32-yard Bruce Redden field goal. Trailing 27-3 with less than 10 minutes left in the first half, the Cowboys attempted to rally. John Johnson scored on a five yard pass from Al Peña to cut the A&M lead to 27-10 with 7:57 left in the half. Oklahoma State's defense then forced a Texas A&M fumble and the Cowboys drove 52 yards in five plays with Julius Crosslin scoring a two yard touchdown, and the A&M lead was cut to 10 at 27-17. Texas A&M missed a 38-yard field goal on its final possession of the first half. On the first possession of the second half, Oklahoma State appeared to be driving for a score that would narrow the lead even more, but Texas A&M intercepted a first-down pass on its own two yard line. The Aggies then drove 98 yards for a touchdown to make it 34-17.
OSU-Texas A&M Game Notes
Freshman cornerback Calvin Mickens registered his second-career interception with 5:36 left in the first quarter. Mickens has OSU's only two pickoffs of the season through six games.
Redshirt freshman Mike Hamilton's 38-yard rush in the second quarter was his longest of the season and set up OSU's second touchdown against Texas A&M.
OSU's 17 points in the second quarter were the most the Cowboys have scored in a quarter all season. The previous high was 15 points in the third quarter against Missouri.
Freshman Jeremy Broadway had his first career reception Saturday afternoon. It was a 15-yard catch with 59 seconds remaining in the game.
Sophomore linebacker Rodrick Johnson's second-quarter fumble recovery was his first of the season, but the ninth of the season for the Cowboy defense.
Iowa State Last Week
Missouri defeated Iowa State 27-24 in an overtime thriller at Columbia. The Cylcones trailed 14-0 after one quarter, but scored 24 unanswered points to take a 24-14 lead with 9:08 left in the game. Missouri scored on a field goal with 4:44 to play and scored the game-tying touchdown with just 20 seconds left in the game. The Cyclones held Missouri quarterback Brad Smith to 39 rushing yards on 11 carries and just eight pass completions for 45 yards. The Tigers won the game in overtime on a 26-yard field goal. Iowa State had the ball first in overtime but misses a field goal. Head Coach Dan McCarney
Dan McCarney is in his 11th season as Iowa State's head coach and has led the Cylcones to seven or more victories in four of the past five seasons. A year ago, McCarney's Cyclones were 7-5 overall, co-champions of the Big 12 North and 17-13 winners over Miami (Ohio) in the Independence Bowl. For his efforts a year ago, McCarney was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year according to league coaches and ESPN.com. McCarney, who has the second-longest tenure of any Big 12 head coach, hs a career record of 48-75 in 10 previous seasons in Ames. Since he arrived at Iowa State in 1995, McCarney has led the Cylcones to four bowl appearances.
More on the Cyclones
Like Oklahoma State, Iowa State began its season with three straight victories but have lost three straight ahead of this week's game. Among Iowa State's early victories were a 23-3 win over then-ranked Iowa and a 28-21 victory at Army. The Cylcones have had hard luck, however, since Big 12 play began. Two of ISU's three league losses have been in overtime on the road. The Cylcones lost 27-20 in double-overtime at Nebraska, lost 23-13 at home to Baylor, and suffered the 27-24 overtime loss at Missouri last week. The Cylcones are led offensively by quarterback Bret Meyer who is averaging 220.7 passing yards per game, and running back Greg Coleman who is averaging 63 rushing yards per contest. As a team, Iowa State is 21st in the nation in rushing defense, allowing just 105.7 yards per game.
