Cowgirls Road Woes Continue, Lose at Missouri
October 10, 2005 | Cowgirl Soccer
Missouri scored on a penalty kick five minutes into the game and Oklahoma State's leading scorer received a first half red card as the Tigers held on to defeat OSU, 3-0, at the Audrey J. Walton Soccer Stadium in Columbia, Mo., on Sunday afternoon.
MU improved its record to 7-4-3 and 2-2-2 in the Big 12, while OSU dipped to 9-3-2 and 2-3 in conference action.
Missouri wasted no time getting on the scoreboard; the Tigers took advantage of an early OSU foul to score on a penalty kick just five minutes into the game.
The game really got heated in the 32nd minute. Cowgirl forward Jesyca Rosholt got tangled up with Tiger Elyse Nikonchuk. Nikonchuk received a yellow card for her action, but Rosholt was warranted a red card and OSU was forced to play a man short for the second game in-a-row. The Cowgirls were already without Lauren Colwell who received a red card on Friday.
OSU was able to hold it at a 1-0 game going into halftime. Coming out of the lockerroom, the Cowgirls put some pressure on the Tigers and goalkeeper Laura Buehrig, but they could not get any good looks at the goal.
The Cowgirls forced five cornerkicks, all in the second half, but only three of the 11 shots they took were on goal. Jeanne Rankin was solid in goal for OSU, tying a career high with seven saves, but it was not enough.
The Tigers added two late goals to put the game out of reach. Aria Hudetz scored in the 85th minute and Amber Swinehart put the final tally on the board in the 88th minute.
Oklahoma State will return home next weekend to face two Big 12 South rivals. The Cowgirls will take on Baylor on Friday night before tangling with nationally ranked Texas A&M on Sunday.
