Cowgirls to Compete in Tulsa
September 04, 2004 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
The Cowgirl's Cross Country team will open their season Saturday, Sept. 4 in the Hurricane Invitational at Mohawk Park.
With no returning lettermen, this will be a very young but talented team for 2nd year Head Coach Rene Sepulveda. Last year, the Cowgirls finished last in the Big 12 and look to improve to be in the top half of the conference this year.
Coach Sepulveda believes that the cowgirls will be a lot better team with all of the new recruits including 14 freshmen, four sophomores, six juniors and three seniors.
A few Cowgirls that could have impact on the team this year are freshmen Mary Davies, Eva Tomankova, Kim Blomkvist, Brittany Hill, and Daryl Round. Other cowgirls that will be a factor for the team are juniors Barbora Kuncova, Valentina Medina (a redshirt season in 2003 cross country, then placed 12th in the NCAA Outdoor Championships 1,500m Final in 2004), Michelle Prowse (placed 10th in the NCAA Outdoor Championships 5,000m Final in 2004), sophomore's Jennifer Edwards(transfer from Arkansas Tech), Maria Trejo, and senior JoAnna Fedick.
In last year's Hurricane Invitational, the Cowgirls placed fourth in the meet behind Tulsa, OU and Kansas State. This year, the Invitational includes the host Tulsa, and Oklahoma Baptist. The Cowgirls are expected to start at approximately 9:00 a.m.
