Cowgirl Soccer Defeats Mizzou, 3-1
September 27, 2004 | Cowgirl Soccer
The Cowgirls struck first with a goal from Jolene Schweitzer at the 14:42 mark. A cross from Jeré Boykin deflected off Missouri's goalkeeper and Schweitzer was in position for the rebound shot.
The Cowgirls finished the first half with nine shots compared to Mizzou's four but had a slim 1-0 advantage.
Mizzou quickly upped the intensity of the game following intermission, scoring the equalizing goal less than three minutes into the second period. Lauren Grice took the corner for the Tigers and after being deflected the ball reached Ashley Gibbs. Gibbs scored her first goal of the season despite a valiant save attempt by Breanna Truelove.
The Cowgirls regained the lead for good three minutes later. Nikki Wojtowicz took a shot from the left side and it deflected off the crossbar. Adriane Radtke was there for the follow shot on an open goal, snagging her seventh goal of the season and giving Wojtowicz the 50th assist of her career.
Jeré Boykin was able to give the Cowgirls some breathing room after scoring an unassisted goal in the 74th minute. Boykin used her speed to blow past Mizzou's defense and scored on an open goal after a misstep by Missouri's keeper.
Truelove allowed one goal but made a season-high five saves in goal. Laura Beuhrig gave up three goals to the Cowgirls and made two saves.
Oklahoma State (9-0-1) returns to action on Friday, traveling to Texas A&M for an 8 p.m. contest.
