Cowboys Open Fall Baseball Practice
September 21, 2004 | Cowboy Baseball
The Cowboys will have several areas to watch during fall practice as they look to replace five offensive starters and three key pitchers who helped lead the team to the Big 12 tournament championship and a regional berth last season.
OSU has four offensive starters returning in slick fielding shortstop Chris Gutierrez, a two-year starter, senior infielder Rusty Ryal, sophomore outfielder Keanon Simon and sophomore utility player/designated hitter Ty Wright.
Junior southpaw Thomas Cowley (8-3, 4.74 ERA in 2004) returns to anchor a pitching staff that lost 26 of the Pokes 38 wins from a year ago.
“I think the two biggest question marks going into the fall are at catcher and in the pitching staff,” said Anderson.
The Cowboys have several talented newcomers that will compete for the vacant starting jobs in the fall season.
The fall practices are open to the public and culminates with a three game World Series. The fall schedule is subject to change due to weather.
