Soccer Dominates Sam Houston State, 10-1
September 20, 2004 | Cowgirl Soccer
Adriane Radtke notched the second hat trick of her career with three goals in the first 26 minutes. The sophomore scored the first two of the game, just over one minute apart, and assisted on the third. Radtke broke down the right side after a long pass from Lauren Colwell on the first score and took a cross from Sasa Jackson for the second.
Jolene Schweitzer gave the Cowgirls a 3-0 cushion in the 18th minute before Radtke followed with her final goal of the afternoon at the 25:35 mark.
Leah Carr and Ashlyn Brantley rounded out the scoring in the first period. Carr, a defender, notched her first goal of the season on a corner kick from Nikki Wojtowicz.
Brantley tallied her third goal of the season, beating a Bearkat defender one-on-one before taking a shot 10 yards out to put OSU up 6-0 at the half.
The Cowgirls pelted the net in the first 45 minutes, taking 22 shots and forcing Melissa Sauceda to make 10 saves, while holding Sam Houston State without a shot.
OSU started all but two reserves in the second period but still scored four goals. Alison Vaughn added a pair and had a chance to earn a hat trick but her final shot fell just wide of the goal.
Farren Brandt came out hot in the second half as well, dishing out two assists and scoring the final goal of the game. Brandt assisted Alison Vaughn at the 47:07 mark and Stephanie Lovely just over a minute later.
Wojtowicz's corners were on the mark against the Bearkats and Vaughn scored her second goal of the afternoon off a corner kick.
The Bearkats took their first shot with 27 minutes left in the contest but managed to avoid the shutout when Jo Fairclough scored on a free kick in the 71st minute after Tynice Friday was fouled.
Oklahoma State fell two shots short of setting a new single-game shot record. The current game-high (38) was set on Oct. 7, 2002, against East Central.
A trio of players saw time in goal for the Cowgirls. Breanna Truelove played the first 45 minutes, Jeanne Rankin made one save in 21 minutes and Erin Corbin gave up the lone goal and made one save in the final 24 minutes.
Oklahoma State (7-0-1) returns to the Cowgirl Soccer Complex to host Louisiana-Lafayette at 7 p.m. on Friday.
