Soccer Prepares For Home Opener

After three weeks on the road, Oklahoma State opens its home schedule this weekend at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex. The Cowgirls take on Northwestern State at 7 p.m. on Friday and close out the weekend with a 1 p.m. match against Sam Houston State on Sunday. OSU leads the all-time series with Northwestern State 3-0, including a 5-1 victory last year. OSU won its only previous meeting with Sam Houston State last year, 9-1.
Scouting Northwestern State
Northwestern State enters Friday's contest at 2-5-0 overall. The Lady Demons picked up their first road win on Tuesday, defeating Louisiana Tech, 5-0. NSU lost at Ole Miss, 7-0, and Mississippi State, 3-1, to open the season. Julie Zavala leads the team with three goals followed by Tara Powansnik with two goals. The Lady Demons are creating their own scoring opportunities, scoring 11 goals as a team but dishing out just five assists. Johnna Klohoker has played seven games in goal, giving up 14 goals and making 59 saves.
Scouting Sam Houston State
Sam Houston State enters the weekend with a 1-4-0 record. Their lone win was a 23-2 outburst against Texas Southern to open the season. Tynice Friday has scored a team-leading six goals for the Bearkats but Yoanna Garcia leads has a team-high 14 points on five goals and four assists. Melissa Sauceda has played the majority of time in goal for Sam Houston State. Sauceda has a 4.28 goals-against average in 408 minutes with 45 saves.
Home Sweet Home
Oklahoma State has yet to play at game at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex in 2004 but when the Cowgirls take the field, recent history is on their side. The Cowgirls are riding a 10-game unbeaten streak dating back to a 3-2 win against Oklahoma on November 1, 2002. OSU is 22-4-3 at home the past three seasons, an 81 percent winning percentage.
Looking Ahead
Oklahoma State will return to the Cowgirl Soccer Complex on Friday, Sept. 24, to take on Louisiana-Lafayette at 7 p.m. The Cowgirls will then open Big 12 play against Missouri on Sunday, Sept. 26, at 1p.m.

Cowgirls On The Radio
Oklahoma State will have five home games plus the OU game at Norman and all postseason contests broadcast live on Stillwater Radio. All games will air on KGFY 105.5 FM with pregame beginning 15 minutes prior to game time. Bill VanNess will handle play-by-play duties. A complete broadcast schedule is below.
