Cowgirls Win Banknorth Classic
August 29, 2004 | Cowgirl Soccer
hosted by Vermont after defeating New Hampshire 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.
The Cowgirls fell behind early but the offense had no trouble coming back for
the win. New Hampshire's Jackie Wishoski scored at the 21:35 mark
but it was all UNH would get in the game. New Hampshire managed just five
shots the entire contest, compared to OSU's 18.
After notching the game-winning goal in her first game as a Cowgirl, Candice Byler
came through with the equalizer less than five minutes after New Hampshire scored.
Fellow newcomer Kalyn Brady assisted Byler on the score.
Junior Alison Vaughn provided the game-winner and scored her first career goal with
seven minutes remaining in the opening period. Vaughn was assisted by Jeré Boykin
and Carla Dolomont on the goal.
Boykin gave Oklahoma State some breathing room at the 42:06 mark, scoring on a
breakaway after an assist from Nikki Wojtowicz.
Breanna Truelove earned the start in goal, giving up one goal in 45 minutes. Jeanne Rankin took over goalkeeping duties after
intermission, tallying one save in her debut as a Cowgirl.
Three Cowgirls; Candice Byler, Kalyn Brady and Carla Dolomont, were named to the all-tournament team.
Oklahoma State (2-0) heads east once again next weekend, visiting William & Mary on Friday and Lehigh on Sunday.
