Q and A with Walter Thomas
August 28, 2004 | Cowboy Football
There was a lot of stress on me. I was going to practice and wondering if I was going to be able to play. I am really happy and glad that it is over.
Do you feel going up against OSU's talented offensive line makes you a better player?
I feel that I am better going up against Sam Mayes and other players that have been here for awhile. I think it is just making me better as a freshman.
Have you learned anything new since you have been here?
I have learned a lot of hand techniques since I have been out here. I have learned to use my strength to the best of my ability.
What is the biggest adjustment that you have had to make so far?
The biggest adjustment was moving from place and joining a new team. I had to get to know everybody and learn how they play so that I can play together with them.
How have you been managing your time since class started?
There is always a problem managing your time, but you just have to work it out. You got to plan everything with school and football.
What has it been like since two-a-days started and you started focusing on game preparation?
Two-a-days were hard, but we are practicing hard out here now just like we were then. We go hard in practice and we do some plays live. We are just trying to get ready to beat UCLA.
Are you prepared to step in and play right away as a freshman?
I think I am ready to step in and get after it.
Have you learned anything from the defensive linemen who were here last year?
They helped me out during the summer when I was up here and going through two-a-days. They have helped me figure out some of the plays. They have also taught me some things during practice so that I can figure it out and be able to move just like them.
What other teammates have helped you?
Sam Mayes has helped me out a little bit. He talks to me since he is an offensive linemen. I take notes from him a lot on what offensive linemen might do, and what I need to look out for.
What are you looking forward to this season?
I am looking forward to having a good season. I am looking to establishing my self as a freshman. I want to play hard and get after it when I get the opportunity.
Are you looking forward to playing in the Rose Bowl for your first collegiate game?
This is the first time that I have ever gone out to California. I am very excited to just being able to make the trip.
