Cowgirl Soccer Downs Vermont In Season Opener
August 28, 2004 | Cowgirl Soccer
The Cowgirls fell behind early after giving up a goal to Amy Cochran in the fifth minute but quickly recovered and scored two first period goals to head into intermission with the lead.
OSU evened the score at 1-1 at the 9:10 mark. Adriane Radtke, the scoring leader during the 2003 season, took a pass from Nikki Wojtowicz, the all-time assist leader at OSU, and put the shot out of reach of Vermont's Lindsay Carfagna.
Freshman Candice Byler came through with the game-winner, and the first goal of her career, as the first half was coming to a close. Byler beat Carfagna one-on-one for the score in the 41st minute.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second half but the Cowgirls came away with the 2-1 win.
Freshman Breanna Truelove got the start in goal, playing all 90 minutes. Carfagna also played the entire game for the Catamounts, making seven saves.
After giving up the early goal the Cowgirls did not allow Vermont to take another shot for the remainder of the first period. OSU finished the game with 17 shots compared to Vermont's three.
Oklahoma State (1-0) continues play at the Banknorth Classic hosted by Vermont on Sunday, taking on New Hampshire at 11 a.m. (CST).
