Cowgirl Soccer Begins Preseason Practices
August 24, 2004 | Cowgirl Soccer
Karen Hancock, the 2002 Co-Big 12 Coach of the Year, enters her ninth year at the helm of the Cowgirl program and the future for Cowgirl soccer has never looked better. The Cowgirls have added 12 newcomers to the mix this fall and the team should once again give fans reason to cheer.
“We are excited about the upcoming season,” stated Hancock. “We return most of our players and feel like we have supplemented the returners with a very talented group of newcomers. Our first practice was high-spirited and productive.”
The Cowgirls had a magical year on the field in 2003. The squad made the conference take notice when it won the Big 12 Tournament after entering as the seventh-seed. OSU then went on to make its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, ultimately falling to Auburn, 1-0.
Returning to anchor the Cowgirls will be six seniors including the all-time scoring leader, Jolene Schweitzer, and career assist leader, Nikki Wojtowicz. Also returning are All-Big 12 selections Lauren Colwell and Adriane Radtke.
The Cowgirls will hold two practices daily through Thursday, Aug. 19, from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., and all practices are open to the public.
The Cowgirls open the 2004 season with an exhibition match against SMU on Saturday, Aug. 21 in Dallas. OSU will then play on the road for three weeks before opening the regular season at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex on Friday, Sept. 17.
Tickets for the 2004 regular season are now on sale at the OSU Ticket Office and can be purchased in person or by phone at 877-ALL-4-OSU.
