Meet Stephen James
August 21, 2004 | Cowboy Football
“It just felt like it was the place I wanted to be at. I wanted to come in and get a chance to play early, have fun and play in the Big 12.”
How has being here in the Spring helped you get to know this program better?
“I got a jump on my classes and got used to things that I'm going to go through during college. It also prepared me for the fall. It made me feel like I'm a veteran because I know all the ropes to everything.”
In the Spring you also went down with a injury, how have you come back from it?
“I feel 100 percent right now.”
Coming here with high school teammate Bobby Reid, was it ever a plan for you two to play together in college?
“We just had to go through the tough times with class together last semester. It seems like we always have someone to count on, and to be there for you. In high school we also talked about playing with each other in college.”
What impresses you the most about the attitude and athleticism that our defense plays with?
“It is a big difference here than in high school because college has big linebackers that can move like safeties in high school. Our safeties can move like the cornerbacks and make a play on the ball. It is also a big difference seeing big guys running and making plays.”
What do you expect out of yourself as a freshman?
“I just wanna come in and make any impact I can early. Then anything the coaches ask me to do I'll do it.”
What is the difference switching from high school to college football?
“Every player is big out here because in high school I was never the smallest. Then when I get out here on the field, I'm one of the smallest.
What is you biggest asset you bring to the football field?
“The biggest asset I bring is my quickness. I can hit hard and I can play hard.”
Who is the most competitive player you have gone up against here at Oklahoma State?
“There is a lot of players, but the toughest receivers to go up against would be Luke Frazier and D'Juan Woods. Luke is probably the better blocker and D'Juan is the hardest to cover.”
What was your biggest highlight in high school?
“When we played in the State Championship game. On the opening kickoff, I made the first tackle, and it felt like I started the game off on the right foot.”
