Two Cowboys Advance To Second Round At U.S. Amateur

Rose was two down to Brea, Calif., native Chirs Heintz through seven holes before recording birdies at Nos. 8 and 9 to square the match. After losing the 10th hole with a bogey, Rose birdied the par-5 12th to square the match and built a two-hole advantage with two holes remaining before hanging on for a 1-up victory.
Kuehne claimed the first two holes in his matchup against UNLV junior Ryan Keeney and never looked back, cruising to a 4 and 3 victory. The Dallas, Texas native won four of the first five holes and held a 2-up advantage at the turn before closing out the match with a par on the 15th hole.
During the stroke play portion of the tournament, Rose, who is coming off his second consecutive runner-up finish at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in July, carded rounds of 74 and 72 to finish tied for 17th, while Kuehne, the 1994 U.S. Amateur runner-up, tied for 23rd with rounds of 73 and 74.
Rose will tee off tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. (EST) against Brian Gillespie, while Kuehne will begin play at 9:50 a.m. against Vanderbilt sophomore Luke List.
