Cowboys Go Through Light Scrimmage
August 19, 2004 | Cowboy Football
The defense made it difficult for the offense to sustain an attack. Thomas Wright and Jon Holland both picked off passes in the secondary. Holland intercepted a pass on the goal line and would have ran it back for a score had the whistle not blown the play dead.
The defensive line also broke through for a couple of sacks. The front seven also filled in the holes to stop the running plays. Jamar Ransom came through the line on a blitz to stop Calvin Roberts at the line of scrimmage.
“Our defense is playing awfully well,” head coach Les Miles said. “Our secondary is awfully good.
“There were opportunities to complete passes today. We just need to reevaluate some of the decisions that were made.”
Several players are still competing for playing time either in a starting role or a backup role. The Cowboys have more options now, and are much deeper than they have been.
“I think we are probably deeper than we have been,” Coach Miles said. “I think he competition for the starting job certainly allows greater depth.”
The Cowboys will conduct two practices tomorrow with an early morning session at 8:10 a.m. and an afternoon practice beginning at 4 p.m.
