Cowboys Look Sharp In First Practice With Full Pads
August 14, 2004 | Cowboy Football
The 2-1/2 hour practice marked the first session where the entire squad practiced as one unit. It was also the first practice in full pads and excitement was evident among the players as they welcomed the opportunity for contact.
“It was a lot of fun out there today,” commented Cowboy head coach Les Miles. “We saw some good things and the guys were able to tackle and have some fun. The offensive and defensive lines got after it and enjoyed their first day in pads.”
As to be expected the coaches will begin evaluating the potential quarterbacks; Jamie Beeghley, Al Peña and Donovan Woods. All three saw considerable action in practice and proved they can be a contender for the starting spot.
“All three quarterbacks bring different things to the table,” said Miles. “Donovan is ahead right now but they are all competing for a spot . We will turn to one of those three this year and I have no doubt they will do a good job.”
Beginning Saturday Oklahoma State will hold two daily practices on alternating days. OSU kicks off two-a-days with a closed 8:24 a.m. practice on the artificial turf and returns for a 4:24 p.m. practice on the grass practice fields.
