Mallory joined the Cowboy coaching staff in 2001 after four seasons at Maryland.
Under his guidance, Maryland's 1998 secondary made tremendous strides statistically, ranking as the country's 14th most improved unit in NCAA pass efficiency defense ratings. One of his pupils, Lewis Sanders earned third-team All-American plaudits that season and was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round.
Mallory's impressive resume includes stops at Western Kentucky, Indiana and the U.S. Military Academy.
Son of former Indiana head coach Bill Mallory, Doug has been coaching on the collegiate level for 14 seasons. He spent three seasons at Indiana coaching the defensive backfield and special teams. At Western Kentucky he was defensive coordinator in 1992 and 1993 and also coached the secondary, special teams and inside linebackers. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Indiana in 1988.
As a player, Mallory totaled 182 tackles and six interceptions at Michigan during his four-year career. The four-year letterwinner played in four major bowl games (Sugar, Holiday, Fiesta and Rose) and helped lead the Wolverines to a share of the 1986 Big Ten crown. He was a co-captain in both 1987 and 1988 and earned honorable mention All-America and second-team All-Big Ten honors as a safety in his senior campaign.
Mallory has also written a book entitled Football Drill Book that contains drills for all positions and has proven to be a popular resource for coaches.
