2003: Akin made 13 starts a year ago at three different positions. He started four games at center, including the Cotton Bowl game against Ole Miss due to an injured Ben Buie. Most of Akin's career has been at guard, with 20 career starts at that spot. Was an honorable mention All-Big 12 choice by the Associated Press.
2002: Akin started the last six regular-season games at left guard and started for the Cowboys in their Houston Bowl win over Southern Miss. He made his first career start against Northern Iowa.
2001: Akin played for Oklahoma State along the offensive front.
2000: Akin's redshirt season at Oklahoma State.
High School: He played on both sides of the ball at Weatherford and earned All-State honors from both the Daily Oklahoman and the Oklahoma Coaches' Association in helping the Eagles to the Class 4A State Championship. On offense, he graded out at a 90-percent average, and on defense he had 101 total tackles. Recruiting services had described Akin as a hard-nosed blue-collar kind of player. His high school coach was Tom Cobble. Also a talented wrestler and one of the top in the state in his weight class. Was selected to play in the Oil Bowl and was an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press.
Personal: Born Oct. 12, 1981, in Oklahoma City, Chris is the son of Michele Atchley. He is majoring in economics at Oklahoma State.
