Bailey comes to Oklahoma State from Middle Tennessee State where he spent one season but helped take the Blue Raider defensive line from last in the league in sacks to near to top. In addition to coaching the defensive tackles at Middle Tennessee, Bailey recruited Mississippi, Tennessee and Alabama.
"Carey Bailey is a great addition to our football staff at Oklahoma State," Miles said. "He has established himself as one of the really outstanding young coaches in the game."
Before arriving at Middle Tennessee State, Bailey served five years as an assistant at Louisiana-Lafayette. Prior to joining the UL-Lafayette staff, Bailey served as the defensive line coach at Virginia Military Institute for three seasons.
Prior to arriving at VMI, Bailey was on the staff at West Virginia working with the defensive secondary when the Mountaineers won the Big East Conference title in 1993 and led the Big East in interceptions in 1994.
Bailey played collegiately at the University of Tennessee and was part of two SEC championship teams. He was a four-year letterman from 1988 to 1991 and led the team in tackles for lost yardage and in quarterback sacks during his junior season. As a senior he was part of a Tennessee team that led the SEC in total defense.
He finished his collegiate career with 96 total tackles and 7.5 quarterback sacks and participated in four bowl games including the 1988 Peach Bowl, 1990 Cotton Bowl, 1991 Sugar Bowl and 1992 Fiesta Bowl.
Throughout his professional career, Bailey has coached some of the best players in the game, including six players who earned first team All-Conference honors under his tutelage. He was on the West Virginia staff that led the Mountaineers to the 1994 Sugar Bowl and the 1995 Carquest Bowl.
Bailey earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Tennessee in 1992. He and his wife, Angela, have one daughter, Evann Leigh.
