Casey Wittenberg Named Big 12 Golfer Of The Month
May 06, 2004 | Cowboy Golf
For Wittenberg, it was his first Big 12 Golfer of the Month selection. He finished as the low amateur at The Masters, tying for 13th place with an even-par 288, earning him an invitation to the 2005 Masters. The Memphis, Tenn., native's 72-hole total was the lowest by an amatuer since Charlie Coe posted a 288 in 1962 and Wittenberg was the only golfer in the field to improve his score each day.
His five-under 31 in the final round was the lowest ever by an amateur on the course's famous second nine and his two eagles were the most by an amateur since 1959. Wittenberg was named to the Palmer Cup squad and was named as the first repeat winner of the SGA National Amateur of the Month Award in April. In his lone collegiate tournament of the month, he finished eighth at the Big 12 Championship. Wittenberg was named a 2004 All-Big 12 Conference and Big 12 Tournament Team selection.
