Three Cowboys Named To Academic All-Big 12 Team

Seniors John Forrest, Mario Matulich and Daniel Rew were named to the list.
Forrest graduated in December with a degree in public relations, while Rew, a two-time first team Academic All-Big 12 pick and Academic-All American nominee, graduated in May with a degree in general business.
Matulich is a two-year starter for the Pokes, while Rew moved into the starting rotation this season after garnering second-team All-Big 12 honors last season as a reliever.
Forrest sat out the 2003 season due to injury after serving as a reliever in his first season in
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the baseball academic all-league squad consisted of 29 first-team members combined with 17 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. Pitchers must have at least one inning pitched per game played by the team or have appeared in 35 percent of their team's total games. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation also are eligible.
