April 30, 2004 | Cowboy Golf
Norén is coming off a third-place finish at the Big 12 Championship earlier this week, marking his fourth consecutive top-10 finish of the spring season. The Stockholm, Sweden native leads the team with seven rounds in the 60s and is second to Wittenberg with a 71.9 stroke average.
Currently ranked No. 40 nationally, Norén began his string with a runner-up finish at the Hall of Fame Invitational after carding an eight-under, 208 total. After a fifth-place showing at the National Invitational, the junior posted an eighth-place finish at the Boilermaker Invitational before tying for third at the conference tournament.
Wittenberg has played a limited schedule for the Cowboys this season, competing in seven of the squad's 11 events. The Memphis, Tenn., native has finished in the top 20 in each outing this season and in the top 10 on four occasions. The freshman's top finish came at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate where he finished fourth while helping OSU to the team title.
A semifinalist for the Ben Hogan Award and a U.S. Palmer Cup Team selection, Wittenberg finished as the low amateur at The Masters, tying for 13th on his way to the lowest score by an amateur since 1962. Wittenberg leads the Cowboys with a 71.3 stroke average and is currently ranked ninth in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and No. 1 in the Golfweek/Titleist Men's Amateur Rankings.
The duo and the rest of the Cowboys will return to action on May 15 when they travel to Ardmore, Okla., to take part in The Maxwell.
