After the Pokes took a 1-0 lead in the second on a Scott Kirby RBI single, the Bears offense came alive and scored four runs in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth and a run in the fifth.
Three of the four runs in the second for Baylor came with two outs in the stanza. Mike Pankratz had a RBI single and Paul Witt had a two-run double to account for three of the runs, while the fourth run was scored on a throwing error.
The Bears added three more runs in the third and knocked out Cowboy starter Thomas Cowley in the inning.
Cowley (1-2) allowed six runs, five earned, on four hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 2.1 innings.
Baylor would go on to score two runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings. Pankratz led the Bears at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs, while Kirby led the Pokes with two hits on the night.
Sean Walker allowed one earned run in seven innings of action to move to 2-5 on the year.
