Cowboys Advance Seven to Quarterfinals

Illinois is in second with 28 points, while Nebraska rounds out the top three with 23 points. Iowa and Michigan are in fourth and fifth with 22 and 21 points, respectively.
Chris Pendleton only scored three takedowns in his match against Leonel Sanchez (Cal State Fullerton), but recorded 11 points off of back points to secure the technical fall. Jake Rosholt added another technical fall for the Cowboys. The defending NCAA champion recorded a takedown and a pair of three-point nearfalls before scoring eight points in the second period to secure the 16-0 technical fall.
Johnny Thompson reached the quarterfinals with his 10-5 win over Tennessee Chattanooga's Josh Keefe. Thompson scored four takedowns to Keefe's zero en route to avenging his first loss of the year. Zack Esposito chipped in a 7-4 decision over Northern Iowa's Jeff Harrison. Esposito scored a takedown in the first period before sealing the victory in the last period with a pair of takedowns.
Tyrone Lewis scored six takedowns en route to a 13-4 major decision over John Sioredas of Tennessee-Chattanooga, while Johny Hendricks used riding time to defeat Derek Zink of Lehigh, 2-1.
Will Gruenwald scored a big 3-2 victory over Rider's Carmelo Marrero. Gruenwald and Marrero were tied at 1-1 late into the third period. With 11 seconds remaining, Gruenwald scored a takedown to secure the victory.
