Cowboy Golf Finishes Third At Morris Williams Intercollegiate
March 18, 2004 | Cowboy Golf
The Cowboys, who entered as the event's defending champion, tallied a 54-hole total of 861, three-under-par, and came in three strokes behind tournament champion Brigham Young. OSU, BYU and TCU were the only schools in the 15-team field to finish below par for the tournament.
Individually, freshman Casey Wittenberg tied for 19th place, marking the fifth top-20 finish in as many career starts. The Memphis, Tenn., native followed up a pair of one-under 71s with a 73 during his final round to finish at 215, one-under-par, and tied with two other players. Wittenberg finished nine shots behind tournament champion Andrew Dahl of Arkansas, who finished at 206 en route to a four-stroke victory.
Fellow freshman Zac Reynolds and sophomore Zack Robinson also posted top-25 finishes. For Reynolds, he capped his best finish in three outings with a career-low round of 71, marking the first time he has broken par as a Cowboy. The Edmond, Okla., native ended play tied for 22nd with an even-par total of 216, while Robinson came in at one-over-par, 217, and tied for 24th place after a 74 during his final round.
Freshman Tyler Leon and junior Alex Norén finished in a two-way tie for 28th place at 219, three-over, after carding rounds of 76 and 72, respectively, on Tuesday.
Competing as an individual, sophomore Chris Clarke shaved nine strokes off his second-round score with a final-round 73 to tie for 73rd place at 234, 18-over.
OSU will return to action on March 19 when it travels to Houston for the Hall of Fame Invitational at the Redstone Club.
