March 16, 2004 | Cowboy Wrestling
Oklahoma State's wrestling team will travel to St. Louis, Mo., March 18-20 to compete in the 2004 NCAA Championships. The Cowboys, who qualified eight wrestlers, will attempt to win back-to-back titles since the 1989-90 season when the team won it under coach Joe Seay.
OSU is fresh off winning its second-straight conference title. The team went into Ames, Iowa, as the favorites and earned 86.5 points en route to its fifth title in seven years.
Eight wrestlers advanced to the finals with four of them coming out on top. Johnny Thompson won his fourth consecutive title after pinning Zach Roberson in 6:32. Only three other wrestlers in the history of the Big 12 have won four title. Tyrone Lewis captured his second title in his career, while Zack Esposito and Jake Rosholt each notched their first titles.
