Cowboy Baseball Cruises Past Louisiana Tech 15-2
March 13, 2004 | Cowboy Baseball
OSU improved to 11-4 with the win, while LA Tech fell to 8-12.
The Pokes trailed 2-0, before breaking out with a six-run third inning. After shortstop Chris Gutierrez opened the inning with a bunt single, centerfielder Keanon Simon plated him with a two-run homer to right, his first collegiate round-tripper. Third baseman Josh Fields had a two-run double and designated hitter Mario Matulich had a RBI double in the inning as well.
The six runs would be more than enough for Cowboy starter Spencer Grogan who improved to 4-0 on the year. He gave up two first inning runs on two hits, but blanked the Bulldogs for the next six innings on six hits.
LTU starter Clayton Meyer took the loss to drop to 2-2 on the year. He gave up seven runs, six earned on 10 hits in 4.1 innings of work with four strikeouts and two walks.
Rod Allen also went 4-for-5, while Keanon Simon had three hits and three runs scored to help lead the Cowboy attack.
Second baseman Brandon Haygood was 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead Louisiana Tech.
The teams will be back in action tomorrow at
