Track Facility to Receive Renovation
February 23, 2004 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
Oklahoma State's Droke Track Complex is set to undergo a major renovation process this spring, clearing out outdated equipment. The new pieces of equipment that will be constructed will help with safety issues and will make the training area NCAA certified for women.
Some of the hightlights of the renovation include a new hammer and discus cage and ring, which will be NCAA and IAAF certified. A new shot put ring and indoor weight throwing ring will also be added. A drill throwing area will also be installed to complete the first phase of the renovation process. Following the throwing area renovation, the long jump and triple jump runway and pit will be totally refinished. A new steeple chase and barriers will also be installed, along with a high jump pit cover to complete the renovation process.
With the installation of the new equipment, OSU will be one of only a handful of schools in the country to have a shot put and weight throwing area.
"Our first goal when we came to Oklahoma State was to upgrade our facilities," said head coach Rene Sepulveda. "This will help our our training a great deal."
Aside from the new equipment, the track area received a face lift when out-of-date equipment was cleared out and some of the chain link fences were torn down. The bleachers and the scoreboard were also torn down, which gives the track a more presentable look.
The track complex, built in 1972, will undergo its first renovation since 1981. The complex is the home of one NCAA championship team and 26 individiual national champions, along with four Olympians and 119 All-Americans.
