Matulichs is coming off of offseason surgery and could challenge for time at first as well as designated hitter if healthy.
2003: Honorable mention All-Big 12 pick at designated hitter ... batted .305 with nine homers and 45 RBIs in 53 games ... started 48 contests, 46 at designated hitter and two at first base ... five of his round-trippers came in conference play ... had 15 multi-hit games and 13 multi-RBI games ... recorded a 12-game hit streak during the year ... batted a healthy .370 against lefthanders ... notched five games with four RBIs ... best game was 4-for-5 showing against Texas Tech (5/16) with a homer and four RBIs.
2001-02: Played two seasons at Manatee Junior College in Bradenton, Fla. ... hit .370 with seven homers, 23 doubles and 62 RBIs ... earned all-conference honors and played in the JUCO World Series in 2002 ... also considered Alabama, UNC-Greensboro and Villanova.
HIGH SCHOOL: Was a four-year letterwinner at catcher at Chaminade High ... was the league MVP as a senior when he hit .450 with eight homers and 15 doubles ... played summer ball with the Ohio Thunder in 2000.
PERSONAL: An economics major ... enjoys hockey, surfing and going to the beach in his spare time ... son of Mario and Gerri Matulich ... born on Sept. 22, 1982 ... favorite athlete is Mike Piazza ... chose Oklahoma State because he always wanted to play top Division I baseball and have the chance to win a national championship.
