Wrestling Makes West Coast Swing

The first event for the Cowboys is the Reno Tournament of Champions on Dec. 19 in Reno, Nev. The Cowboys are allowed to compete with 13 wrestlers in the tournament. Daniel Frishkorn will make the move up to 141 pounds, and will compete with Ronnie Delk, the defending tournament champion. The semifinal and final matches will be carried live on 93.7 FM at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.
On Dec. 22 the Cowboys have a pair of duals against Cal Poly (0-2) and Fresno State (0-1). The Cowboys will wrestle against Cal Poly at 11 a.m. in San Luis Obispo, Calif., and they will face Fresno State at 7 p.m. in Fresno, Calif. Both duals will be broadcast live with J. Carl Guymon on 93.7 FM starting at 1 p.m. CDT for Cal Poly and 9 p.m. CDT for Fresno State.
Cal Poly is led by 125-pounder Vic Moreno, who is currently ranked fifth in his weight class. The Mustangs took a hit when All-American Darrell Vazquez withdrew from school due to an illness.
Fresno State is paced by All-American Marcio Botelho. Botelho is currently ranked No. 6 at 197.
OSU is sending a total of 15 wrestlers on the trip. Two Cowboys will compete at 125, 133, 141, 157 and 184. Only 13 wrestlers are allowed to compete in the Reno Tournament of Champions, but head coach John Smith said each wrestler will get to wrestle at least one match.
Oklahoma State will be at home again on Jan. 6 when they face the Michigan State Spartans at 7 p.m. inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
