Postgame Notes
Oklahoma State extended its win streak over Baylor to nine games and now owns a 12-11 series lead over the Bears.
Seymore Shaw rushed for a career high 172 yards on 30 carries. His previous bests were 21 attempts (vs. Texas in 2002) and 107 yards (vs. SMS in 2003).
Donovan Woods threw a touchdown pass in his ninth consecutive game and rushed for a score for the ninth time in 10 games. He has now scored 60 points this season, which is third-best for a freshman at OSU all-time (71 by Larry Roach in 1981; 67 by Cary Blanchard in 1987).
With 234 yards of total offense today, Donovan Woods set a new freshman mark for total offense with 1,796 yards, besting Tony Lindsays mark of 1,736 yards set in 1997. With his two touchdown throws he extended his freshman record for touchdown passes to 13 (previous best was nine by Tony Lindsay).
DJuan Woods 53-yard touchdown reception tied a career and season long set against Colorado (Oct. 9). It was his sixth scoring grab of the year, which ties him for 10th on the schools single season list (Jamie Harris, 1983).
Prentiss Elliotts 74-yard punt return for a score was his first as a Cowboy and OSUs second this season. Darrent Williams had a 59-yarder against Tulsa.
Elliotts 39-yard touchdown reception was his fourth of the season. His previous three scores have gone for 43, 58 and 39 yards.
Grant Jones recorded his first career interception.
The Cowboys finished with a 4-2 record at home, marking the third straight season with a winning record in Stillwater. The win also assured OSU of at least a .500 mark in Big 12 play for the second straight year and for the third time in the nine year history of the league.
Postgame Quotes
OSU Head Coach Les Miles
On the game
We played well. It was an opportunity to rush the football and control the clock. The defense played well at points, but still gave up some big plays. Considering the weeks prior to this, this is just what we needed.
On Seymore Shaw
Seymore (Shaw) has been hanging in there and looking to run the football. When we turn to him he has always been ready for us. He is a very good player. We are very fortunate to have a tremendous back to turn to and go get yards. Seymore is a rough and rugged guy.
On big plays on first drive
They played us so tight. They played the safeties so low that it was part of our game plan early and late, if given the opportunity.
On importance of this victory
When you look at this team and what has happened the two weeks prior, playing so well to a point yet coming off the field twice without victory we needed a charge and needed to get on the positive end. That is what they did today.
On Elliots punt return
It was pretty darn good. Certainly, I was mad when he bobbled it. Then we he made the first guy miss I said at least he is going to get some yards. The he made 10 others miss and we thought he would end up in the end zone. Prentiss (Elliot) has tremendous ability and certainly is capable. That did not surprise anyone on our sideline.
On the senior class
It is fortunate to have a tremendous group of seniors leave the field at their last home game with a victory. Ultimately, that might be the most important part other than the victory. The gift to those guys who will no longer walk onto Boone Pickens Field and play. Those guys have meant a whole lot to this football program. They have been through some tremendous wins and have been instrumental in the good fortune this football program has experienced in the past several years.
OSU Players
Cornerback Robert Jones
On finishing you college career at Oklahoma State
It was very exciting to fulfill my dreams of playing for a team in the Big 12 conference. It was also a great experience to play for a great team that is on the rise and a program that is going to keep on rising.
On playing your last game in Stillwater
It was very emotional knowing that it is all coming to an end, but it was good knowing that we got the win and that we helped build a good program. We just now move on to the rest of the season and after that hopefully fulfill another dream by playing in the NFL.
On the Baylor offense
They seemed to be better than last years team because they were able to put some big plays on us. Their quarterback was good because he was able to throw and run a little on us.
Punter Cole Farden
On how it was to play your college career at Oklahoma State
The year before I came in here, we werent that good. My first year, we were able to win four games and we beat OU. Ever since that big win, we have changed this program around.
On playing your last game at Boone Pickens Stadium
It was crazy because it seems that my time here has gone so fast. It was good that we won and that is what matters.
On the win against Baylor
We needed a win bad. I dont care if it is senior day or just any game. Its nice to win because you always want to win on your last game at your home stadium.
Fullback Shawn Willis
On the win against Baylor:
It was a big step bouncing back from the two losses we had in a row. I think that as a team, we needed this win. This week we worked and prepared hard for this game and we just went out there to try and get the seventh win of the season.
On your play and two touchdowns against Baylor
It is always good to get those touchdowns because I am usually used as a blocker. Any time that I can get my hands on the ball is always another great experience because you have a chance to make a big play for your team.
On being apart of this last win for the seniors on their last game in Stillwater
It was real important to end their last home game on good note. Its emotional and all of them wanted to come out here and win. I think that everybody came out here and played a great game for them. I think that even though they are leaving, they are leaving happy.
Baylor Head Coach Guy Morriss
On the missed tackles
We were trying to stay high on them for some reason. We kept telling our kids to try to get down on their legs, but for some reason we didnt want to tackle down on these guys. Oklahoma State just lined up and did what they do best. They mashed us up front pretty good.
On the Cowboy backfield
They have good backs. Their fullback (Shawn Willis) is something else and he was pounding us pretty hard. They just mashed us up front. That is all there is to it.
On the first half fourth down call
Someone told us that it was four to six inches and I thought that surely we could get enough of a push to get a first down. I really wanted to push the ball in and get seven to get our guys excited. Our offense wasnt very excited and I thought that surely we could get six inches. Maybe we should have just kicked the field goal.
On the play of freshman quarterback Terrance Parks
I think that if there was a highlight to todays game, it was his play. We had planned to put him in on the third series with a package that we had ready. When Shawn (Bell) went down we had to use him and I thought he did a good job. We dont want him checking a lot on offense. We just want him to do what was called and he threw the ball pretty well. Overall he had a good day.
Baylor Players
Wide Receiver Trent Shelton
On his touchdown catch
On the touchdown we ran all fades. I knew I had a shorter corner on me, so I ran full speed and Terrance (Parks) just threw a great ball. I havent seen a perfectly thrown ball that far in a while. It was crazy. I didnt really see the ball until the end, and then I just tried to make a play. I had to make up for a pass I dropped earlier.
On Terrance Parks
Shawn (Bell) got hurt and Terrance stepped up. Being second string quarterback, you always have to be prepared. When Dane (King) went down, Sean stepped up, and now Terrance stepped up. I knew Terrance had it in him, and he just showed everybody what he does. He is a great player. His arm is crazy. Ive seen him throw it 55 or 60 yards flat-footed, so he has a great arm.
Wide Receiver Dominique Zeigler
On Terrance Parks
I think he played real well for his first time getting a lot of snaps. We just have to take it from there and hope he gets better for Oklahoma. When the game starts we know he is going to be ready to play. He had great stats in high school. We knew he was a good quarterback who could throw the deep ball. He really did not surprise any of us.
On deep throws
We always mess around after practice to see who throws the ball the farthest and Terrance usually wins. We knew he could throw the deep ball.
On the first half
In the first half we came out and only had two or three possessions. Coach told us we had to take advantage of how many possessions we got because of how much they run the ball. We didnt do that in the first half, but we came out in the second half and played a little bit better.
Running Back Paul Mosley
On the second half
We were looking for a comeback. We saw what happened to them at Texas, and we kind of had the momentum going our way, so we felt like we could come back and win the game.
On the first half
In the first half, we all came out a little flat. We werent playing the way we could, but we picked it up as the game moved along. If we want to win games we cant come out flat, we have to put together two full halves. We came out and played better in the second half.
