Cowgirls Head into Districts with Confidence

The Cowgirls are the third-ranked team in the District V Regional, and will look to finish as one of the top-two teams to get an NCAA Championship bid.
The Cowgirls are coming off a third-place finish at the Big 12 Championships, on Oct. 30. With Midwest Regional and Big 12 opponent, Missouri, finishing second at the championships.
“Our main goal is to qualify for nationals, so we have to finish in the top two,” head coach René Sepulveda said. “If we don't qualify, we believe that two of our girls have a chance to compete as individuals, at nationals.”
The top-two teams in each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, along with 13 at-large selections.
Cowgirl freshman and Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, Mary Davies, will lead the Cowgirls into nationals, after finishing fourth-place individually at the Big 12 Championships.
Along with Davies, the Cowgirls will run junior Barbora Kuncova, junior Michelle Prowse, junior Valentina Medina, sophomore Jennifer Edwards and freshman Kim Blomkvist.
“Everybody right now is really focused, and they feel good about themselves and as a team,” Sepulveda said. “The confidence level is up, and the girls are healthy and ready to compete.”
The Cowgirls will compete as the No. 26 team in the country. Missouri will bring in their ninth-ranked squad, while 16th-ranked Illinois will also compete.
Bradley University, will host the District Regional, with the women's race starting at 11 a.m.
