Billy Bajema And Darnell Smith Receive Football Academic Honors
November 12, 2004 | Cowboy Football
This marks the third time that Bajema has received the honor, while it is the first for Smith. Texas Tech wide receiver Cody Fuller was the only other first team representative from another Big 12 school in this district.
District VI includes all universities in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma.
Bajema, who was recently named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete, has a 3.7 cumulative grade point average as a pre-medicine and general business double major. A three-year starter, he is currently third on the team with 14 catches for 223 yards and a touchdown. He will be playing in his final home game this weekend against Baylor.
Smith has a 3.64 cumulative GPA and is majoring in economics and international business with a minor in marketing. He has started the last eight games along the defensive line and has made 12 tackles on the year.
The first team award automatically makes both players eligible for Academic-All American honors, which will be announced later this year.
