Cowgirl Soccer Shuts Out OU, Advances to Big 12 Tournament

The Cowgirls and Sooners combined for 10 shots in the first period, six for OSU and four for OU. Jeanne Rankin had one save for the Cowgirls, stopping the only on goal shot in the first 45 minutes.
The Cowgirls best shot at scoring in the first half came with just under two minutes remaining. Nikki Wojtowicz took a free kick from the left corner and placed the ball perfectly in front of the goal but OU's Catherine Wade emerged from the net to punch the ball out of the play.
Trailing 1-0, the Sooners stepped up their attack and earned a corner kick with 16 minutes left. Two shots were taken as a result of the play but both were blocked by the Cowgirls. OU had another chance to score minutes later with a free kick from 30 yards out but the Cowgirls held strong.
The contest turned very spirited and physical in the final 10 minutes with both teams fighting to extend their seasons. Holding a one-goal lead the Cowgirls fell back onto OU's half of the field, using numbers to up their defensive advantage.
