Cowgirl Soccer Falls To Nebraska, 2-0
October 23, 2004 | Cowgirl Soccer
Nebraska came out pressing the Cowgirls but it was Oklahoma State with the first exciting play of the game in the seventh minute. Jolene Schweitzer took a long pass from Nikki Wojtowicz and broke down the right side of the field before firing a shot that was wide left.
The Cowgirls had a trio of opportunities midway through the first period, earning three consecutive corner kicks but getting just one shot off.
Nebraska finally caught a break in the 42nd minute and made good on the opportunity. Sasha Andrews took a shot for the Huskers and Breanna Truelove made the save but dropped the ball. The Cowgirl defenders attempted to clear the ball out of the box but Vern Fitzgerald was there for the putback, giving Nebraska a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Oklahoma State came out firing in the second half as Schweitzer broke free down the left side, but once again Katie Wright was in place for the save. The Huskers immediately countered and Sari Raber scored her first goal of the year just over two minutes into the period.
OSU played aggressive throughout the entire game but was unable to convert. The Huskers and Cowgirls finished with nearly identical statistics, both taking 14 shots and making five saves. OSU held the advantage in corner kicks, taking seven to Nebraska's four.
Oklahoma State closes out its home season against Colorado at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Cowgirls six seniors will be honored immediately following the contest.
