Cowgirl Soccer Shuts Down The Cyclones, 2-1
October 17, 2004 | Cowgirl Soccer
Schweitzer, the all-time leading scorer at OSU, tallied both of the Cowgirls goals against the Cyclones. The senior put the Cowgirls on top in the 28th minute, taking a pass from Dolomont and heading the ball into the left side of the net.
The Cowgirls held onto the 1-0 lead for the remainder of the first half but it didn't take Schweitzer long to strike in the second period as she scored her 10th goal of the season just over one minute in. Jeré Boykin played the ball into the box on a cross, it deflected off ISU's goalkeeper back into play and Schweitzer was there for the follow.
Facing a two-goal deficit Iowa State felt the pressure and responded at the 49:49 mark. The Cyclones played the ball into the box and OSU's Breanna Truelove came out to make the save but it bounced over her head. Kate Kirwan was there for the header, scoring her third goal of the season.
Iowa State fed off the momentum and controlled the game for the next 10 minutes but Truelove came through with big saves, totaling six in the contest, to preserve the win for the Cowgirls.
Oklahoma State returns to action on Friday, hosting Nebraska for a 7 p.m. tilt at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
