Cowgirls Have Strong Showings at Both Meets
October 14, 2004 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
The Cowgirls “A Team” took first at the Triton Classic, in San Diego, Calif., and then had the top two individual runners at the competition and four runners in the top ten.
Most of the race, Cowgirl freshmen Mary Davies and Barbora Kuncova were running head-to-head with each other. Davies, who has been the Cowgirls main threat this season, finished first individually, while Kuncova finished right behind Davies in second position.
Other Cowgirls who followed closely behind Davies and Kuncova were junior Michelle Prowse, freshman Kim Blomkvist and freshman Eva Tomankova who finished ninth, 10th and 18th, respectively.
“It was a difficult course because it had sandy trails that made it tough for each competitor, but came down as a great experience for our runners,” head coach René Sepulveda said.
The Cowgirls “B Team” competed at the ORU Subway Classic, in Tulsa and finished tied for second at the meet right behind ORU.
Sophomore Maria Trejo finished fifth and was the top runner for the Cowgirls.
Senior Lisa Bowles was the only other Cowgirl to finish in the top 10 as she finished sixth overall.
Oklahoma State will now prepare for the Big 12 Championships, in Topeka, Kan., on Oct. 30.
