Soccer Topples Tulsa, 4-1
September 21, 2003 | Cowgirl Soccer
The Cowgirls pelted Tulsa's Kelly Wilson with five consecutive shots on goal before Kim Graves found the back of the net at the 25:05 mark on an assist from Jolene Schweitzer. With the goal Graves has 50 points to her credit and owns the top spot in the career points race.
With the first half winding down Marcela Nova scored her first goal of the season, heading in a corner from Nikki Wojtowicz.
Tulsa narrowed the lead to 2-1 when Katie Ward scored midway through the second period.
With renewed urgency to gain a cushion Nova and Wojtowicz combined once again. It looked like a rerun of the first goal as Nova's header was true to its mark on Wojtowicz's corner at the 73:53 mark.
Katie Lacey completed the backfield's offensive output with the first goal of her career. Wojtowicz picked up her third assist of the night when she found Lacey on the left side with seven minutes left in the contest.
For the first time this season Kathrin Lehmann went the distance in net, giving up one goal and snagging three saves.
The Cowgirls nearly tripled Tulsa's offense, outshooting the Golden Hurricane 27-to-10. It marked the first time Oklahoma State allowed its opponent to hit double-digit shots since the season opener at Western Kentucky.
Oklahoma State (7-0) plays the second half of the Oklahoma Shootout Sunday afternoon in Norman against Oral Roberts. The Cowgirls face off with the Golden Eagles at 4:30 p.m. followed by Oklahoma and Tulsa at 7:30 p.m.
