Oklahoma State Outlasts San Diego State 14-8

The Cowboys scored six runs in the second off of Aztec starter Jeremy Cook. Ronté Langs started the scoring with a RBI groundout to first base with the bases loaded. Shortstop Curt Anthony had a RBI infield single to give OSU a 2-0 lead before Rhodes followed with a grand slam to rightfield.
Back to back doubles in the top of the fourth by Langs and first baseman Luke Scott pushed the OSU lead to 7-1. The Pokes added four runs in the fifth, two coming off a double by Scott to extend the lead to 11-1.
Scott finished the day 2-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs.
The Aztecs scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth, three of them earned, off of reliever Clint Salisbury to cut the lead to 11-5.
After scoring three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 14-5 lead, SDSU rallied for three of their own to cut the lead to 14-8.
Josh Merrigan, a junior college transfer from Butler County Junior College, picked up the win in his first start for the Pokes. The lefthander scattered five hits over four innings and gave up one run with one strikeout.
The win was the first of the season for OSU which moved to 1-2 while San Diego State dropped to 5-3 on the year.
Oklahoma State will be back in action Fri., Feb. 11 when the Pokes take on Grambling in the Bone & Joint Clinic Tournament at 6:30 p.m. CST in Ruston, La.
