Oklahoma State Defeats Western Illinois 12-1

Luke Scott opened the scoring when he ripped an RBI double to leftfield scoring Jimbo McAuliff and advancing Nebasett Brown to third base. Michael Lorsbach followed with a sacrifice fly to centerfield which plated Brown and Scott who scored from second base, giving the Pokes a 3-0 lead.
Darren Heal and Carlós Gautreaux hit doubles in the second with Heal scoring giving OSU a 4-0 advantage.
The lead was extended to 7-0 in the third when Rob Watson hit a three-run homer, his fifth of the year. The Cowboys added a run in the sixth and four in the eighth to round out the scoring for OSU.
Freshman Kyle Smith hit a two-run homer in the eighth, the first hit of his Cowboy career.
The Leathernecks lone run came in the eighth when Tony Defazio hit a sacrifice fly to left scoring Kevin Koeneman from third.
Junior Josh Merrigan was dominant on the mound throwing six innings of three-hit ball. He struck out four and walked only one to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Nathan Rueter pitched the entire contest for the Leathernecks and threw 147 pitches. He gave up 10 earned runs and walked seven to drop to 0-4 on the season.
Oklahoma State won its fourth game in a row and improved to 11-7 while Western Illinois dropped to 1-14 on the year.
Both teams will be back in action tomorrow at 3 p.m. to close out the two-game series before Kansas comes to town this weekend for a three-game conference set.
