Cowboys Defeat Western Illinois 16-4

The Cowboys took the two-game series over the Leathernecks by a combined 26-5 score and won for the fifth time in a row.
OSU scored four runs in the first and three more in the second to take an early 7-0 lead. Ryan Budde blasted a three-run home run in the second, his third homer of the season.
The Cowboys added another run in the third before Western Illinois finally got on the board in the fourth when Dominic Gusso knocked a RBI single to centerfield.
Oklahoma State starter Clint Salisbury pitched four and two-thirds innings, one out short of qualifying for the win. He gave up eight hits and one run while striking out six and walking two. Stu Hunt pitched an inning and a third of hitless relief to pick up the win and move to 2-0.
The Pokes scored three more runs in the fifth and sixth innings and two more in the seventh to put the game away.
Nebasett Brown led OSU with a 3-for-4 day at the plate while Roy York also fared well with a 3-for-5 showing and two runs scored.
The Leathernecks used eight pitchers in the contest as starter Chris Donahoe picked up the loss to drop to 0-5. It was the 12th straight defeat for Western Iliinois as the team dropped to 1-15 overall.
The Cowboys improved to 12-7 and will be back in action this weekend when Kansas comes to town for a three-game Big 12 series. The two teams will open up Fri., Mar. 17, at 3 p.m. at Reynolds Stadium. Matt Smith is scheduled to pitch for the Pokes while Rusty Philbrick is slated to throw for the Jayhawks.
