Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Over Kansas

Bludau pitched a seven-inning complete game shutout in the first game of the twinbill. The game was called due to the 12-run rule. He limited Kansas to just five hits and walked three while striking out five to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Luke Scott belted a solo-homer in the second to get OSU on the board first and the Pokes added three more in the third to take a 4-0 lead.
Rob Watson, Ryan Budde and Darren Heal each had two hits for the Cowboys who scored six runs off of Kansas starter Pete Smart (4-4).
First baseman Shane Wedd led the Jayhawks at the plate collecting two of the team's five hits in game one.
OSU scored eight runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach. Toby Rhodes had a two-run double, Budde a RBI-triple and Heal a two-run single to pace the Pokes in the inning.
Josh Merrigan pitched seven innings of four-hit ball in the nightcap to improve to a team best 5-1 on the season. He gave up one run and struck out seven with three walks to win his third game in a row.
The Cowboys scored at least a run in the first six innings and led 7-0 going into the seventh inning. Relievers Quenten Patterson and Rusty Rushing combined to give up four runs, two earned, off of three hits in the eighth and the ninth innings. Rushing stuck out three in 1.2 innings of work to pick up his fourth save of the season, tying his career high set last year.
Carlos Gautreaux, Budde and Watson each had three hits for the Cowboys in the second game as the Pokes improved to 14-8 overall and 5-4 in the Big 12.
Kansas starter Jeff Davis dropped to 3-2 on the year pitching only 2.1 innings and giving up four runs on eight hits with one strikeout. Shorstop Casey Spanish led the Jayhawks offensively with 2-for-4 day at the plate with an RBI. KU, who won the first game of the series, dropped to 15-10 overall and 4-5 in conference action.
OSU will close out its six-game homestand against Arkansas on Tues., Mar. 21, at 6 p.m. at Reynolds Stadium.
