Women's Track And Field Team Changes Weekend Plans
May 16, 2003 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
Junior All-American Hanna Smedstad and Junior Sara Wells will be the only OSU representatives for the women's distance races. Smedstad's 16:14.95 time in the 5,000m at the March 25 Stanford Invitational allowed her to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships to be held later this season. Wells' top performance of the season was a 10:10.71 time in the 3,000m at the April 7 Texas Relays.
Junior Melinda Jackson, who is a top contender in the Big 12 in the long jump and the triple jump, will also travel to Philadelphia. Jackson posted a 5.73m mark in the long jump at the April 15 John Jacobs Invitational. Her best triple jump mark of the year was a 12.33m mark at the March 18 College Station Relays.
Senior All-American Sherita Jackson will be the long sprinter to compete for the Cowgirls this weekend. Jackson's personal season best in the 200m was a 23.77 finish at the April 14 Mt. SAC Relays. Her 11.60 time in the 100m at the April 14 Southwest Invitational was good enough to allow her to automatically qualify for the Olympic Trials.
Sophomore Tiffany Davis will travel with the Cowgirls to compete in the hurdles. Her season-best in the 100m High Hurdles was a 14.34 finish at the March 25 Texas Southern Invitational. She also finished the 400m Int. Hurdles in 1:04.16 at the Texas Southern Invitational.
After the Penn Relays, the Cowgirls will travel to Texas A&M on May 13 to compete.
