Cowboy Baseball Denied Regional Appearance
April 09, 2003 | Cowboy Baseball
The Cowboys finished the season 36-22 and in sixth-place in the Big 12 with a 14-13 mark. It is the first time in over 20 years the Cowboys did not have 40 wins in a season (1979).
Head coach Tom Holliday did not wish to conduct media interviews at this time as he is having player exit interviews. The following are quotes from Coach Holliday who just completed his fourth season as the head man and 22nd year with the Oklahoma State program:
"As anything that is traditional, the wounds of not getting in are obvious. It is a very personal feeling, to be here from the start and to maintain it for nearly 20 years, its hard to accept. "
"Our league only getting five teams in draws concern from me. We finished sixth in a league that I feel is in the top two in the country. The SEC puts in six and other conferences are getting 3-4 teams despite the quality of their schedule and conference play. "
"To mention out of league schedule really creates the strongest feeling of anger for me. Other than that I won't complain or call anybody to complain. I am a Big 12 fan and will root for our five teams to win first and no one else."
"We tried very hard to reload this season after losing seven starters, and the hurt and letdown is very hard for some players to understand. For the first time in 20 years we don't have a celebration, instead it is a reverse of that feeling."
"When you create a monster and don't feed it, it brings nothing but heartache. This is a new feeling and for the first time in my 22-plus years here I am going to spend the next few weeks traveling and holding on to our recruiting class for next season."
