Baseball Standout Honored

Oklahoma State's Matt Smith leads the Cowboys with national honors, by being named to the 1998 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team.

Left hander Smith, earlier named Freshman of the Year in the Big 12, was named to the all freshman team with his 5-3 record. For the season he had a 3.46 ERA, 79 strikeouts, and 33 walked batsmen in 79 innings pitched.

Smith most recently won the first game of the 1998 Midwest Regional against Georgia Tech. Smith pitched six and two-thirds innings giving up eight hits, and striking out eleven.
