Q&A With Jeff Machado

I have one brother who is a freshman here and plays center and then I have an older brother who plays for the Jets. He just made the team. He plays center and backs up the guard position.
How has your older brother influenced you?
He has been a huge influence on me. We lived in a small town and playing Division I football was not even an option. We moved to a bigger town in Iowa, and the publicity was a little bit bigger. He gave me the goal to get up here and play Division I football. I base my performance on his.
Have you influenced your little brother in the same way?
I think I have, but it is going to be hard for him. He has two older brothers who play division-one and then he has one in the pros. I think he felt pressure early on in high school as far as playing football is concerned. He enjoys football and he was under a little bit of pressure to come here, but I think he enjoys it a lot.
Do you think you could play football at the next level? it would be nice, but you cannot hope for it. It would be something that would be very nice to be able to do. I have seen my brother and I have seen how he lives.
What are you going to do if you don't play at the next level?
I am going to get my degree in general business. I am going to try to do something with that. I might come back to school and go into construction management and try to do something with that. My older brother makes enough money and he could coach football the rest of his life so that is something I would like to do.
Would you consider coaching football?
I do not think I could handle the college coaching life, but I would love to do something at the high school level.
What have you learned from the different offensive line coaches you have had? I think one thing I have learned is that just about every scheme is the same. I think having different coaches helps a lot because you learn something different from each of them and you can use the entire package.
