OSU To Extend Coach Simmons' Contract
April 08, 2003 | Cowboy Football
The board met Friday afternoon and approved the extension that will cover seven years, including the current season.
"Our goal with football at Oklahoma State is to develop a consistent, winning program with integrity and one in which our student-athletes graduate," said OSU Athletics Director Terry Don Phillips.
"In order to accomplish this, we have to have stable leadership. I am delighted we have Bob Simmons as our head football coach and this extension further stabilizes our program. High school recruits will know that Bob Simmons is with us for the long term."
"Terry Don and I have talked extensively about the future of this program and we share the same goals," Simmons said. "We want to continue to build this program the right way. We obviously want a winning program but also one that exemplifies integrity and graduates its players. I am excited about the future of OSU Football."
Coach Simmons is in his fifth season at OSU. He was the 1997 Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Cowboys to the Alamo Bowl.
