Football Postgame Notes
April 08, 2003 | Cowboy Football
* Kansas' 13 first-quarter points are the most OSU has given up in a first quarter since Missouri scored 14 on Oct. 26, 1996. * Sophomore QB Tony Lindsay scored the 10th and 11th touchdowns of his career today. * Kansas' fumble return for a score is the first against OSU since Sept. 14, 1991, when Arizona State took a Cowboy miscue 71 yards for a touchdown. * Lindsay's 51-yard first-quarter score is OSU's longest rush for touchdown since R.W. McQuarters ran for a 56-yard TD against Missouri last season. * Junior LB Troy West's first-quarter interception return for a touchdown is OSU's first since Kevin Williams went 40 yards for a defensive score against Colorado last season. West was playing in his first game as a Cowboy and finished with two pickoffs on the day. * Junior FB Jeremy Halferty earned the first start of his career and responded with the first touchdown of his career as well. * Junior TB Nathan Simmons' 62-yard run in the third quarter was his career long. It's the Cowboys' longest since 1995, when David Thompson went for a 91-yard non-scoring play in the 1995 Kansas State game. * Sophomore TB Jamaal Fobbs' third-quarter touchdown is the fourth of his career. * The Cowboys were two for two on fourth down today; both conversions came on scoring drives. OSU converted 12 of 17 fourth-down attempts in 1997. * After going five for five today, junior PK Tim Sydnes has hit his last 30 PAT attempts. He made all 23 of his point-after tries a year ago. * The last time OSU was tied at the half was in 1995, when the Cowboys and Colorado were tied 17-17 at the half. Colorado won the game, 45-32. * Today's result leaves the Cowboys 56-36-5 in season openers. This year also marks OSU's second consecutive opener on the road against a Big 12 opponent. The Cowboys defeated Iowa State 21-14 in Ames last season. * After holding onto the ball for 36:29 today, OSU has won the time-of-possession battle in 13 straight regular-season games, including all 11 contests last year. The Cowboys' record in that span is 10-3. * The Cowboys, who finished last season with a +13 turnover margin, ended today's game plus-three in the takeaway-giveaway department. * OSU's 38 points today are the most in a season opener since the Cowboys defeated Southwest Missouri State 45-7 in the 1995 lid-lifter.
